Don’t Waste Money on Bottled Water: Filter Your Own

Maybe you’ve heard that “Evian” is “naïve” spelled backwards. Given how much bottled water costs compared to tap water, it might be an accurate description for those who purchase it. After all, tap water is one of the most affordable resources and is available for free or nearly free from innumerable water fountains and sinks everywhere. Yet, many consumers are still willing to pay $3 a bottle of water, whether it is filtered or not.

Save Money: Get a House Water Filter

In 2009, it was discovered that roughly 45% of bottled water comes from municipal tap water sources – and then the bottled water company may or may not do any filtering before dispensing it in their landfill-bound bottles. Yet Americans buy more than 500 million bottles each week, second only to soda purchases. And the waste generated from these bottles, 85% of which are never recycled, is staggering.

Do yourself a favor and get a good house water filter and filter your own tap water. Buy a few glass or plastic bottles to store the water in your fridge so that it’s ready to go when you are. You’ll be going easier on your pocketbook and the environment. Filtering tap water is the smart thing to do.
