What is chloramine? You may also hear it called chloramines or monochloramine, but
it used as an alternative to chlorine in the disinfection process of treating water. It is a chemical compound of chlorine and ammonia.
It is highly controversial because the effects have not been extensively studied yet many water treatment facilities are switching to it or already have because the disinfection byproducts are fewer than with chlorine. However, it has not proven to be safe and there are many advocacy groups across the country fighting for chloramine bans. They argue there are safer methods to disinfect water. You can read more of the pros and cons at http://chloramineinfocenter.net/.
Yes, there are other alternatives, such as reverse osmosis or UV filtration, but these technologies are prohibitively expensive for municipalities to install and operate.
However, you can take matters in your own hands by installing your OWN filtration system in your home. That way, no matter what the treatment facility is doing, your family will be safe from harmful disinfection byproducts.
Our PurHome Series (models X-5, X-51 or X-1000) all address chlorine and chloramine. We use a special catalytic carbon media which is more expensive than regular carbon. It removes chlorine and chloramines so that your family is safe from their harmful effects. The carbon we use also addresses heavy metals in the water. For example, it is believed that lead may be leached from pipes when chloramines are used. If you remove the heavy metals from your drinking water in your home, you do not need to worry about lead in your water.

Simple Steps to Help Prevent Breast Cancer
The total number of women in the United States diagnosed with invasive breast cancer rose by 5.5 percent in 2009.
How can you best prevent breast cancer from affecting you and the ones you love? Start with some simple lifestyle changes.
- Find alternatives to contraceptive drugs and to hormone replacement drugs if you are past 40.
- Have a vitamin D3 blood test; then take 2,000 to 5,000 IUs of vitamin D3 supplements every day until you have raised your blood serum levels to 60-80 ng/ml.
- Filter your home's drinking and shower water. Make sure it is free of chlorine, chloramines and the other carcinogenic materials that exist in most municipal water supplies.
- Stop using heavy estrogen or placenta-based hair straightening, processing and, or conditioning products — especially if you are trying to get pregnant, or are already pregnant.
- Limit your alcohol intake to three glasses of wine or beer a week and stop smoking. If you are trying to avoid a recurrence, limit your alcohol further and absolutely stop smoking, whatever it takes.
- Lose those 20 extra pounds of body fat you're carrying around.
- Exercise – even a little everyday goes a long way.
Small steps now prevent bigger problems down the line. One of the simplest and easiest ways to help prevent health problems is to have a house water filter installed. Need help choosing the best one for you? Visit us at PuriTeam and we can help. Or call 888-491-4100.

What's A Water Softener vs. a Water Filter?
People often use the terms "water softener" and "water filter" interchangeably. They assume they are the same thing. Well, aren't they? Nope.
A water softener will truly remove hard water minerals such as calcium and magnesium. It makes the water feel slippery soft. Hard water is not a health hazard. In fact, most water naturally has some hardness. After all, it's just minerals. However, many people don't like the effects of hard water on their appliances, tubs, and fixtures. It creates scale build-up over time, leave spots on dishes, and causes you to use more shampoo and detergents.
On the other hand, a filter is removing specific contaminants from the water such as chlorine, heavy metals or fluoride. The type of filter you purchase will determine which specific contaminants it will remove. There are, of course, many different types of filters. There are countertop filters, undercounter filters, coolers, and whole house water filters.
To decide which option is best for you (or perhaps a combination of both technologies), visit us at www.puriteam.com and we would be happy to provide a recommendation based on your needs.

Ugh! I can't believe this.
I very recently moved into a new home. The buyers of my previous home requested that the PurHome X-1000 whole house water filter remain in the home. I thought, well, that's OK, I can get a new whole house water filter at my new house in the next few weeks.
Then we moved into our home and tried the water. Honestly, it's horrible. Yes, people accuse me of being a water snob, but this stuff is BAD! It smells like chlorine (I would even go so far as to say bleachy), it tastes likes a nasty combination of chlorine and salt. I cannot bear to choke it down. So me, the biggest proponent of whole house water filters is forced to drink bottled water until I can get my new filter installed, which I hope will be days and not weeks.
At first, I thought I could wait a few weeks before installing it, but now I know I cannot wait another week! Thank goodness my dad is quite skilled at these installations, since he's installed both PurHome X-1000's and X-5's all over town here for friends and family. So my next call will be to him begging him to install another filter for me. Sorry, dad, but I really do appreciate it!

Do YOU Need a Whole House Water Filter?
Sometimes people look at me funny when I say I sell whole house water filters for a living. Really? A "whole-house" filter, why do I need that? When I go on to explain that a whole house solution is an ideal for homeowners that are concerned about the chlorine, heavy metals, and more in their showers and drinking water they have a little "A-ha" moment.
A whole house filter will provide you protection from chlorinated water, heavy metals, pesticides, herbicides and much more in your water. No one likes to think that their water can have all these undesirable things in it, yet it very often does. Chlorinated water (especially in showers) is dangerous because it is a known carcinogen (cancer-causing agent). Don't get me wrong, our water has to be chlorinated, otherwise it would have many more problems (think cholera here), but the chlorine should be removed at the point of use prior to use and consumption in order to avoid the negative effects of ingestion and breathing it in.
The cost for it is really pretty low when you consider what you are getting in return. Besides, you'll no longer need to buy bottled water, which will save money (not to mention the environment). Maintenance is pretty easy, too.
Not all whole house water filters are created equally, however. Do your research to make sure the one you select will take care of YOUR water problems. There are many good options out there! If you want a recommendation from my company, feel free to fill out our recommendation form (this one is for city water) at http://www.puritec.com/city_water_recommend_form.html
Maria Williams is the owner and President of PuriTec.com and PuriTeam.com. She has a whole house filter system in her home and her hair and skin has never been better.
